WPLJ is currently seeking undergraduate and graduate students who are looking to gain valuable hands on experience in the fields of consumer public relations and radio sales/advertising. Promotions Intern:
The Promotions Department produces, promotes and executes concerts, live broadcasts, movie screenings and other station-related events as well as client-based promotional van-appearances. Interns assist at these events and are also assigned day-to-day office duties to learn how a radio station operates behind the scenes.
The Promotions Internship Program is open only to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students. The internship is unpaid and college credit *must* be earned. Students enrolled in a degree program in communications, marketing / public relations or business-related field preferred. Ideally, each intern should be available two days per week (Monday - Friday) and one day on the weekend totaling 20 to 25 hours per week. There is some flexibility based on the student’s schedule and the number of hours required by the school to receive credit.
Sales Intern:
The WPLJ Sales Department is seeking bright, energetic undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in pursuing a career in radio sales or advertising. If you are team-oriented and thrive in a fast-paced environment, we want to hear from you! There is no better way to jump-start a career in radio or advertising / marketing.
Students will work directly with one of the top radio sales teams in New York City gaining hands-on, practical experience. The WPLJ Sales Internship program is open only to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students. The internship is unpaid and college credit *must* be earned. Students enrolled in a degree program in communications or business-related field preferred. An express desire to work in radio sales / advertising upon graduation is a definite plus. You are invited to apply for a paid internship with one of the nation’s largest homebuilders, K. Hovnanian Companies.
Homebuilding and its effect on the economy of our state and nation remain one of the hottest stories being covered. In addition, the demand for homes and information about homes is unprecedented.
As an intern, you’ll work with a small but well-support public relations office. You’ll get involved with product publicity, regulatory affairs, special events, media relations, employee communications and other facets of public relations, as well as the more mundane day-to-day tasks that make a PR department function.

Purpose:
To simultaneously add semi-professional staff in the public relations office while providing a working lab for a public relations student.
Qualifications
» Interns must be undergraduate or graduate students in a recognized communications school.
» They must have demonstrated an interest in public relations through the declaration of their major, class work and membership in the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) or similar organizations.
» Candidates must have permission from their school and be granted course credit for their work.
» The school’s internship requirements must be compatible with the needs of K. Hovnanian Companies.
» Interns will be expected to be in Edison or at a K. Hovnanian site at least two to five days a week.
» Interns will pass a writing test administered at K. Hovnanian Companies.
» They must be willing to adhere to the K. Hovnanian and the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Codes of Ethics.
» They must meet the K. Hovnanian requirements for associates and interns.
»Students must assure that their work schedule coincides with college requirements and schedules.
Duties:
Interns will perform a variety of administrative and professional tasks. K. Hovnanian recognizes that future professionals will not benefit from being given only mundane tasks, but interns must recognize that those mundane tasks must be performed by everyone from time to time. In addition, we assume that you'll be working only on K. Hovnanian-related work while at our facilities.

» Choose, write and attempt to place a story in local, regional or trade media.
» Manage one significant project, e.g.:
» Executive bios and photos

» Master media list

» Associate or customer polls (latter in coordination with marketing and/or sales managers and the VP)
» Accompany the director of public relations to events and meetings that may be directly beneficial to the intern’s tasks or provide insight into the role of public relations.

» Assist with media sweeps and clip sorting, filing and distribution
» Assist with the obtaining releases for advertorials
» Handle various administrative tasks as assigned
» As a member of the Marketing and Sales Staff, the intern may be called upon to assist with focus groups, openings and other events as well as occasional administrative tasks.
Compensation:
K. Hovnanian's director of public relations will work with the intern's faculty advisor to assure that the student receives the maximum amount of academic credit available. Compensation is $10 per hour with a maximum of 32 hours a week, although from time to time, you may have the opportunity work extra time. In addition, you may be eligible for special assignments at community events.

K. Hovnanian Companies is located in Raritan Center (Edison), N.J. Most of the intern’s work will be here. The intern may be asked to travel to any of the com-munities in the Northeast Region. We’ll make every attempt to accommodate the professional goals of the student within the scope of the program and the company’s needs.
